Okay so I just realized that Eridan threw off his cape before dueling Sollux and that’s what Kanaya used to wrap around herself as a bandage.

Which explains the fancy swoop at the back; it;s the stiff collar. But for the extra fabric to be flowing behind her, she must have cut it. Both for easier tying and of course to stay fashionable.
